In 2019 Civilogistix designed a carwash in The City of Lake Wales, Florida. The project design involved fitting an entire carwash facility, as well as sufficient parking and an above ground retention pond on less than an acre of land. The layout of the site was strategically designed using Civilogistix innovative design philosophies to allow room for 20 vacuum stations, 3 individual vehicle prep stations and 2 queue lanes. This provided stacking for 16 moderately sized vehicles, as well as a 3,000 square foot carwash facility, dumpster pad and a 4,100 square foot above ground retention pond.
Due to the shallow seasonal high groundwater table located across the site, an above-ground dry retention pond was the most effective option for treating stormwater runoff from the site. The native soil types across the site were excellent for infiltrating stormwater into the underground water aquifer. Due to the shallow depth of the seasonal high groundwater table, the pond was limited to a depth of only 5 feet which made it very difficult to provide enough volume to retain stormwater during extreme storm events. To provide additional volume capacity for the pond without sacrificing developable area on the site, the design included lightly sloped stormwater drainage pipes. These were sized to retain the additional volume necessary to contain the extreme storm event on site.
Civilogistix provided professional design services as well as coordinated permit approvals from The City of Lake Wales, The Florida Department of Transportation, The Florida Department of Environment Protection and The Southwest Florida Water Management District, all within 5 months of the project kickoff.
